Beverley Hughes
Constituency
Following the latest boundary changes, the Parliamentary seat of Stretford and Urmston was created prior to the General Election in 1997. As a result, I became the first Labour MP in this constituency. The new seat brought together a Labour heartland in Stretford and Old Trafford, and part of the former Tory constituency of Davyhulme. My new constituency also includes Partington and Trafford Park, as well as being the home of Manchester United, and Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Trafford Centre. Stretford and Urmston constituency is situated in the north of the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford. Trafford Park covers a total area of 670 hectares and is the largest industrial park in the North-West. Its location in the constituency means that Stretford and Urmston is a net provider of employment to the Greater Manchester sub-region. There is also a business park in Carrington, which consists mainly of companies in the chemical industry.
