Anne Begg
Constituency
Aberdeen South is one of Aberdeen's three Parliamentary constituencies. Situated within the City boundaries it covers the areas south of the river Dee, Torry, Kincorth and Cove, and the areas along the Dee's north bank from Ferryhill right out past Cults to Peterculter, stretching northwards to include Broomfield and Mannofield. Much of Aberdeen South's prosperity comes from the oil and gas industry which provides a large number of jobs. Some of the major oil companies have their UK headquarters in the constituency. Fishing is still a major employer in Aberdeen along with The Robert Gordon University, which has a brand new campus at Garthdee. Although it is an urban and suburban constituency, Aberdeen South contains Aberdeen's two largest and best known parks. The Duthie Park has the famous Winter Gardens and Hill of Roses while Hazlehead Park has wide open spaces used for a variety of activities.
