Westminster Matters

With a media frenzy, the likes of which has never been seen before, over leadership and personality while the country is in economic recession, I have tried to stay focused on the main issues that effect my constituents.

In the House I spoke on the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Bill on the impact that the proposed abolition of the Common Travel Area would have on local Welsh ports. It is imperative that we get the balance of security and movement of people and freight right.

I met with members of the Thalidomide Trust whose campaign for justice I support and I met constituents and escorted them around the Houses of Parliament.

Back in the constituency, I held an advice surgery and handed out certificates to volunteers as part of the volunteers week celebration. I remain impressed with the efforts of all our volunteers and the efforts they put in to help others and our communities. I also congratulate the umbrella group, Medrwn Môn, for their organisational / support work. I attended a craft competition at Coleg Menai in Llangefni and witnessed a high standard of vocational skills in the essential crafts construction needs. This all bodes well for the future.

I also attended and supported a concert of Mary Parry’s musical players at the Town Hall, Holyhead. The event was of an excellent standard and raised money for local charities.

I accepted a kind invitation to a service at St Cadwaladr’s Church and the opening of a herb / apothecary garden. This kind of event, even in the rain, helps me to get back down to earth.
