Don Foster
'Twenty is Plenty' for Walcot Street
29 April 2009
Who: Don Foster MP, Martin Tracy (owner of The Framing Workshop), Cllr Caroline Roberts (Newbridge, Lib Dem who is leading Lib Dem campaigning on "Twenty is Plenty"), Walcot Street business owners and local residents.
What: Residents and businesses on Walcot Street wish to see the 20mph zone extended to cover the whole street. Don and the Lib Dems are supporting this measure, as part of their campaign to have 20mph zones on all residential streets.
When: Friday 1st May 2009, 9.30am.
Where: Meet outside of The Framing Workshop, 80 Walcot Street, Bath, BA1 5BD.
Bath MP Don Foster said, "With the Labour government now joining our calls for 20mph speed limits in urban areas, it is time the Conservative council took note of our campaign and started applying sensible speed limits.
"The speed of traffic on residential streets continues to be a major problem in Bath. It is an issue raised regularly when I am on the doorstep. It's time for the Council to admit 'Twenty is Plenty'."
Martin Tracy, owner of the Framing Workshop, said, "Only a few weeks ago we had a major accident on Walcot Street which was caused by a speeding driver.
"For the sake of moving a sign a few hundred yards up the road the Council could help make Walcot Street safer for everyone, and help local businesses."
Cllr Caroline Roberts said, "Residents in my ward and across the city are calling for lower speed limits on residential roads. Now that the government are encouraging councils to reduce speed limits, I hope that B&NES will back this Liberal Democrat campaign."
