Top Falklands Official To Lay Wreath at Chorley Memorial
Sukey Cameron MBE, UK Representative to the Falklands Islands Government, is visiting Chorley to lay a wreath at the Falklands Memorial based in Astley Park on Friday 11th May.
Ms Cameron is the Falklands Islands top official in the UK whose main role involves working with the UK government and Parliament to represent the interests of the people of the Falklands. Ms Cameron is taking time out of her busy schedule to lay a wreath to mark the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War, following an invitation from Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle.
The ceremony will be attended by Chorley’s Mayor, Mary Wilson, members of the British Legion and the local Territorial Army. The event will commence at 12 noon at the memorial stone in Astley Park this Friday.
Mr Hoyle said:
“We are very honoured to have Sukey visiting Chorley to mark the 25th anniversary of the Falklands conflict. I know that Sukey is extremely busy with many events and commemorations and it is very much appreciated that she has been able to find the time to visit Chorley’s Memorial and lay a wreath.
“Over 250 British soldiers lost their lives during the conflict. Perhaps even more worrying is the fact many ex-servicemen who served in the Falklands have committed suicide. I know that much of Sukey’s work has been involved in improving support for ex-service personnel who have difficulties after being on active service and we remember all these individuals at the wreath laying on Friday.”
