Roger Godsiff MP supports the call for Bangla to be recognised as one of the UN's official languages
At a packed meeting, organised by Roger at the House of Commons recently he pledged his support to the growing campaign amongst Bangladeshis in the United Kingdom for Bangla to be recognised by the UN as one of its official languages.
Paying tribute to the organisers of the campaign in the United Kingdom Roger said that 'language' is an essential ingredient of each and every culture and as Bangla is the fifth most widely spoken mother tongue language in the world that there was a compelling case for the UN to recognise it as one of its official languages.
Roger has again put down an Early Day Motion (EDM 244) for the new session of parliament seeking support for the campaign in the House of Commons and the Motion reads as follows.
EDM 244
RECOGNITION OF BANGLA AS AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF THE UNITED NATIONS
That this House welcomes the campaign initiated by Bangladeshis in the United Kingdom to get Bangla, which is the fifth most spoken mother language in the world, recognised as an official language of the United Nations; and calls upon the Government to give its support to this proposal.
