Reform of Members' Expenses: Statement from David Amess MP
20 May 2009
'As a result of the events of this week in Parliament, the reform of Members' expenses should be welcomed. As I understand it, the committee of Party leaders and others met quickly and arrived at the changes which have subsequently been announced. It is right these changes are introduced immediately. As the reforms continue, I very much hope that whatever recommendations are made by the independent committee looking at these matters, they reflect the changing role of an MP that I have certainly experienced since 1983 and in particular the working practices of the House as they have evolved in recent years and that they also now reflect the times when the House sits.'
