Crispin blunt to be new shadow minister for counter-terrorism and security
The Leader of the Opposition David Cameron today invited Crispin Blunt to become the Shadow Minister for Counter-Terrorism and Security as part of his reshuffle of the Conservative Front Bench team. Mr Blunt will join the Shadow Home Affairs team working closely with the new Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling MP and the Shadow Security Minister Dame Pauline Neville-Jones. Since 2004 Mr Blunt had been an Opposition Whip.
Speaking this afternoon in Westminster Mr Blunt said:
“I am delighted to be joining the Home Affairs team and to be taking on this important new role. Security policy affects us all and has always been an area of special interest to me. The current economic climate is already having an impact on political regimes across the world and economic uncertainty increases the risk that extremism will be seen by some as an answer to their problems.
"With a new administration in Washington these are challenging but exciting times to be focusing on how the next Conservative Government will act to protect our citizens and to uphold our shared liberal values.”
