    Post office closure shock

    Tuesday, August 19 2008

"The consultation was a sham" claim residents as two more Castle Point post offices are closed by order of the EU.

Local MP, Dr Bob Spink who has campaigned for many years to keep our post offices open and get more business through them could not hide his great disappointment. Bob has raised petitions and debates in the House of Commons and even successfully got a new post office for Canvey which he opened two years ago.

Bob said: "Residents will be devastated at this uncaring decision which will hurt vulnerable people and out high street shopping centres.

"Both these post offices serve communities with a high level of elderly people and they will be deeply disappointed that the Government has again failed to listen to the.   I thank everyone who has displayed my posters in their windows and will continue to fight to get better services and more support for our local shopping areas.

"But the fact is that even if every MP in Parliament voted to spend British taxpayers money to keep a few special POs open, they still could not do so because Europe says no.

"This shows how successive Tory and Labour Governments have abandoned the supremacy of our Parliament to unaccountable Brussels bureaucrats, with their federal agendas. I hope Labour and Tory MPs, who have been very quiet on this issue, will now back me in saying enough is enough, we should take back control of our own domestic decisions."
