Plaid Cymru : The Party of Wales Response to Appointment of New Welsh Language Board Chair

Plaid Cymru : The Party of Wales have accused the Labour party of 'open freemasonry' following the appointment of the new Chair of the Welsh Language Board. Plaid claim they have obtained information indicating that the appointment was made on political bias and overrided normal public appointee procedures.

Owen John Thomas AM, Shadow Culture Minister said:

I am concerned that the standard procedures normally used for making high profile public appointments were not adhered to in this case. All my efforts to persuade the Minister to reconsider his flawed approach have fallen on deaf ears. It is with great regret that I have been forced to make a formal complaint to the Public Appointments Commissioner.

Adam Price, Member of Parliament for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr said:

This case is sadly indicative of a wider malaise created when the monopoly of power is resulting in a one party state, every bit as arrogant as anything that happened under the Tories. The Labour Assembly Government is operating a form of 'open freemasonry' when people are promoted on the basis of political bias rather than purely on merit. This is life in Wales under Labour, stitch up for appointments, stitch ups over the Richards Commission, and the Quangos they can't control - those with business links - they abolish.
