NHS at 60

Brian Donohoe MP joins Alan Johnson to thank staff and look to the future.

Celebrating the 60th anniversary Brian Donohoe said,
"One of the main reasons I wanted to be a MP was to fight for the NHS in Ayrshire. I believe it is one of our country's greatest achievements. A service that is available to all based on need - not ability to pay.

"On 5 July we should take time to say thank you to the wonderful staff who look after us when we need care and attention.

"Sixty years since we founded it, Labour is changing the NHS. Our mission is to make the NHS a more personal health service, fitted to the needs of families and focused on preventing ill health as well as curing it.

"That is why Health Secretary Alan Johnson has asked me to find out what you think about the NHS and how we can improve it for you. Please write to Brian Donohoe MP, House of Commons, Westminster, London, SW1A 0AA.

"As your MP I can give you this guarantee. I will always fight to improve the NHS in Central Ayrshire and work to ensure that it is fit for modern life.

Health Secretary Alan Johnson said, "Brian Donohoe MP is a real advocate for the NHS in Parliament. Please take some time to tell him what you think about our Health Service. I know Brian will certainly tell me what you think."

Commenting on the NHS in Scotland Brian Donohoe said, "The NHS has provided a vital service to the people of Scotland, however the SNP fail to recognise its importance. Since SNP has been in administration the NHS has not been a priority. The SNP are failing to match Labour’s spending on health as seen in the rest of the UK.

"Government is about choices and the SNP have decided to spend less on health compared to England. It’s a simple choice and one that will harm patient care in Scotland."
