MPs win bid for waste disposal in Cornwall
Colin Breed MP for South East Cornwall and fellow Liberal Democrat colleaguePaul Tyler MP for North Devon were delighted that the joint bid by Caradonand North Cornwall District Council for a £140 million recycling centre, which includes a materials recovery centre, to serve East Cornwall wasfinally approved.
Colin Breed MP and Paul Tyler MP wrote to DEFRA in April 2002 to support thebid and will continue to campaign for environmental funding in Cornwall.
Colin Breed said:
" I am delighted that DEFRA have finally decided to support this bid for arecycling centre for East Cornwall. It can no longer be acceptable that theUK only recycles 11% of it's waste and puts 81% into the ground.
Something will have to give at some point and I refuse to allow thisGovernment to continue to let that be the health of our children or thestate of our beaches. I would like to encourage everyone to support therecycling centre and to make a determined start at recycling their householdwaste"
