McIntosh Questions Floods Minister

Miss Anne McIntosh, MP for the Vale of York and Shadow Minister for Floods, met Phil Woolas MP, Minister for the Environment, whom she shadows, on Tuesday 30th October at the Houses of Parliament.

Miss McIntosh said: “It was an extremely useful meeting with the Minister, who was accompanied by various officials at the Department and at the Environment Agency. I raised with him my concerns that Pickering was being neglected and remained vulnerable to further flooding. I also stressed my concerns that Yorkshire and the Humber was historically under funded despite it being flooded so frequently.

“I also highlighted my wider concerns regarding ownership of the drains, and the problem of surface water run off, as well as the adequacy of the warning systems in place when the floods hit. We discussed the lack of coordination between the various bodies at the time of the floods that in some places hampered the rescue and clear up operation.

“I am writing to the Minister further to follow up the issues raised, and to ensure the subject remains firmly on the Government’s agenda.”
