Martin sleeps out for charity

Battersea MP Martin Linton will be spending a night under the stars on Friday to raise money for one of the UK's leading children's charities, NCH.

Martin will be joining over 150 top IT executives to sleep out for Byte Night on 17 September 2004.

NCH's annual sleep-out for the IT community, created by Ken Deeks of PR company Kaizo, raises money for NCH homelessness and leaving care projects.

This year's Byte Night will take place at Potters Field, adjacent to City Hall, The Queen's Walk, London SE1.

Martin said: "Byte Nite is a fantastic event and I'm proud to take part. I've spent just one night sleeping rough every year for some years now, but some people do so all the year round, even when hostel places are available. Byte Nite raises money to prevent young people becoming homeless in the first place, because once on the streets it is hard - but certainly not impossible - to start again.

"If you'd like to sponsor me please go to http://www.nch.org.uk/bytenight/ or send a cheque made out to NCH to Martin Linton MP, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA."

Sam Thomas , senior corporate fundraiser at NCH said, "Byte Night has become a highly successful event, raising over £1M since its launch in 1998. This year we're aiming to raise at least £200,000 for our leaving care and homelessness projects throughout the UK and thanks to people like (your name) we're sure we'll hit our target."

Actress, Jenny Agutter, (The Railway Children, American Werewolf) who has supported Byte Night since its first year will join the sleepers in London.
