Local MP welcomes further action to protect vulnerable adults
Further steps in the safeguarding of vulnerable adults from harm and abuse were announced today. It comes after a successful consultation with charities and the public that resulted in over 10,000 pages of responses.
These include; the setting up of an Inter-Departmental Ministerial Group, which will give co-ordinated government leadership for the services involved in the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults; making Safeguarding Adults Boards mandatory in local authorities, giving them statutory footing and lastly by providing guidance to define the roles and responsibilities of all agencies and groups involved in safeguarding, such as the police, health service and housing staff.
Vera Baird QC, Member of Parliament for Redcar, said:
"I am glad that the government has acted upon such an important matter, by increasing the protection of vulnerable adults. Anti-social behaviour is a stain on our community and hopefully this, along with other actions the Government is taking, will help vulnerable people feel safer on our streets.
"The SA Boards will help stop any harm to vulnerable adults. The guidance provided to the police and other services will allow them to reduce harm to vulnerable adults and to spot any case of abuse as quickly as possible"
