Local MP Backs Clampdown On Road Tax Dodgers
Featherstone MP Jon Trickett has backed a new clampdown by West Yorkshire Police and the DVLA on Road Tax dodgers.
From today members of the public who suspect that a vehicle has not been licensed will be able to report it to the DVLA on freephone 08000 325 202. It is hoped that this will help to recover millions of pounds that are lost each year by people failing to pay their Road Tax. In conjunction with this a publicity campaign will run encouraging people to be check when their own Road Tax will run out and warn Road Tax evaders of mobile clamping units which will operate in the Yorkshire Area.
Commenting on the campaign Jon said ‘I welcome these fresh attempts to make those who continue to drive without Road Tax pay. This is only fair on the majority of car owners. Also, if someone is driving without Road Tax then they are not insured, and the consequences of this are serious for both the insured and the uninsured drivers. It is in all law-abiding road users’ interests to use the new helpline to make the roads a safer place to drive
