Humfrey Malins CBE MP seeks reassurance over Bisley as the 2012 Olympic shooting venue
20 January 2009
Following the initial publishing of the independent review carried out by KPMG into the venues for the 2012 Olympics, the possibility of the shooting events being held at Bisley is still being evaluated as a possibility. During questions to the Minister for the Olympics, Tessa Jowell, in the House of Commons on Monday, Woking’s MP questioned,
"Bisley has terrific facilities, it is the home of shooting, it has a history of expertise and it can deliver everything on cost. Everybody in Surrey is keen on this, so can she just give me a bit of encouragement that Bisley, which has a wonderful claim, may be chosen?"
Afterwards Humfrey said "It was a shame that the Minister could not provide me with a response, the fact is everyone at Bisley is raring to go to prove that it is the best place to hold the events but I am worried that the organising committee has gone so far down a track that they are too embarrassed to turn back. Bisley is the best option in terms of legacy and in terms of cost, so let’s hear some genuine progress from the Government and from the Organising Committee about the re-evaluation of the shooting venue."
