Dr Brian Iddon MP welcomes Aziz Mulla to the Prime Ministers Young Peoples Reception at Number 10 Downing Street

Dr Brian Iddon MP was delighted to welcome local young man Aziz Mulla to attend the Yong Peoples Reception hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown last week.

The reception, which was being held to celebrate the work young people have been engaged in across the country in helping other people, was held in Number 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister and other Members of Parliament in attendance.

Dr Iddon says,

“I was delighted that Aziz was able to come down to be at this Reception as he is an excellent role model for the valuable work young people can play in their communities. Aziz is Head Boy and member of the School Council at St James CE High School in my constituency and I was very impressed to hear about the work he has done there in acting as a mediator in bullying cases and also in organising charity fundraising performances for Derian House Children’s Hospice.”

In addition to his work at school Aziz is also involved in community work, for example befriending young asylum seekers and mentoring them to help improve their confidence. Aziz has also taken part in an international exchange programme involving over 200 young people across the world, the aim of which is to break down cultural barriers through sport. The project, entitled Youth Sport Action is sponsored by the British Council and the young people visited Macedonia, Azerbaijan and Israel to see how the various cultures and religions live side by side.

Aziz Mulla of Great Lever said,

“It was a great experience to come down to London to meet the Prime Minister who really made all the young people feel welcome. Whilst it does take up a lot of my time and effort to get involved in the work I do. I do it because I think it will make a difference to everyone’s lives.”
