CURRIE AND BALERNO NEWS 339 August 08

August 2008

One of the great things about going to the monthly Farmer’s market at Balerno is getting to talk to people about what’s going on. Last month, I bumped into one of the organisers of the Music Festival that’s taking place in October. I’m delighted it’s going to be launched this year.

I remember meeting the Balerno Village Conservation and Development Forum representatives to discuss their idea. Their motivation was quite simply to support community life and a music festival was one of their ideas to bring this about.

Over the last couple of years many people and local clubs have worked tremendously hard to bring the Music Festival to fruition. I understand the ticket sales are going well and I hope that people will go along to enjoy and support the events.

Currie Rugby Club has been in contact with me to discuss the availability of pitches for young people at Malleny Park. The Rugby Club have put a lot of effort into their youth initiative and have around 300 boys and girls involved. I’ve also been invited to address the Currie Balerno Rotary Club to discuss the economy in Edinburgh, the UK and indeed across the world. I’m looking forward to meeting the members of both of these clubs in the near future.

There’s a lot going on locally and the commitment and enthusiasm from local people to supporting their villages of Juniper Green, Currie and Balerno is self evident. I want to continue to help in anyway I can, please let me know.
