Council fails local people on development plans

    Friday, July 11 2008

News that Conservative controlled Essex County Council and Castle point Borough Council intend to sell off school land to build 100 houses on Canvey is further proof of the motives behind the plans to close a Canvey school according to MP Dr Bob Spink who has been critical of plans to close a Canvey school.

Bob feels his stand against the school closure will be vindicated as the 50% increase in compulsory secondary education and extra homes, along with the failure of Canvey people to get their choice of school, continue to bite.

Bob says, "The Tories have lost the plot. I warned from the very start that their school closure plans were more to do with selling off assets than with improving education opportunity as Councillors tried to claim.

"We are already overdeveloped for our infrastructure and the extra building will make matters much worse.

"I am certain councillors were the architects of the plans to use the school land for massive development. People realise that certain councillors are not open and honest with them and this brings Tory councillors into disrepute.

"I congratulate Canvey’s Independent Councillors, led by Dave Blackwell, for publishing information about the building plans before the election and I feel an apology is owed to them, they were not scare-mongering after all."
