Beith backs committee report on North - South divide

Berwick MP Alan Beith, commenting on today's report Reducing RegionalDisparities in Prosperity from the Committee on the Office of the DeputyPrime Minister, said:

“I very much welcome the report's endorsement that the North East needsa Barnett formula, and its call for transport investment to be used as alever to improve regional economies, with extra resources going to theNorth East.

“The report also backs stronger powers for an elected regional assembly.

“The Government needs to take notice of this report, which goes right tothe heart of what needs to be done to give the people of the North Easta fair deal.”
