‘Affairs of the Heart’
February brings St Valentine’s Day and through the month you can post your ‘valentine’ in the window of The British Heart Foundation shop in Merthyr and support their work. This month I have been wearing one of their new heart shaped pins; they come in different styles for men, women and young people and can be worn any time. I was welcomed at the shop to post my valentine to Merthyr and meet the staff. Make your heart beat a little bit faster for a £1 this month and wear a heart for all to see. The ‘swanky’ heart shaped mobile ‘phone carrier version they sell is one for the ladies boys! The BHF shop in Merthyr has been a great success over the last 14 years. With a small paid staff and a dedicated group of volunteers the shop gives a new life to good quality clothes and other items but in concert with Tydfil Training gives opportunities for training and work experience to local people. More than just shop, they raise funds to support many in our communities who have suffered with heart problems or been affected by them. From babies to older people heart disease is by far the biggest killer and debilitating condition in our valleys so look after your heart and give some of its affections to those who do much to raise the money to support and educate us all not to break our hearts!
