Voice UK responds to call from charities that inflammatory media coverage over benefits is fuelling abuse of disabled people

6 February 2012

Kathryn Stone OBE, chief executive of Voice UK responds to the call from six charities that inflammatory media coverage of the government's proposed benefit cuts, has caused rising abuse of disabled people.

"Voice UK is pleased that there is long awaited recognition of the real difficulties caused by media reporting and perceptions of disabled people as 'benefit scroungers'.

"We fully support all agencies call for more responsible reporting and hope that this will lead to a more balanced view of the rights of disabled people to live free from harassment and fear."
