VELUX lends its support to the New Homes Bonus

VELUX lent its support to the government's New Homes Bonus during a recent visit by housing minister Grant Shapps to Kettering, Northamptonshire. Shapps was in the town to launch the scheme, which will see the government incentivise local councils and communities to consent to new developments in their area by offering to match council tax payments on every new home for six years.

Kevin Brennan, head of sustainability, VELUX Company Ltd, comments: "It is essential that the government introduces financial incentives to encourage housebuilding at a time when the number of new home starts continues to fall drastically short of meeting demand. Not only will the New Homes Bonus result in more new homes, but it will generate additional income for the community, with the local authority able to decide where that money is best spent.

"It is only right that the New Homes Bonus was launched in Kettering, which, over the past couple of years, has benefitted from improved infrastructure and facilities as a result of new development. VELUX is currently building two CarbonLight Homes at Bovis Homes' Charter Park development in the town as part of the Model Home 2020 project.

The homes are intended to act as a standard for future sustainable design and we have received strong support for the project from the council, local authority groups and community, who can follow the build process once underway on the VELUX website and who will be invited to tour the homes when finished in 2011."
