Unite's message to MPs: We will continue the fight for Bombardier

At a parliamentary lobby today, (12 October) Unite will join its sister unions and vow to keep fighting to save jobs at Bombardier and change the government's disastrous decision on Thameslink.

Britain's biggest union will remind the government that it is not going away - Unite will not give up the fight to save jobs in Derby.

The lobby to save Bombardier jobs takes place at, Wednesday 12th October, 12.30pm, Committee Room 10, House of Commons, London.

Unite assistant general secretary, Diana Holland said:

"Today's tragic unemployment figures are evidence enough that the government's decision to turn its back on Britain's last train maker was a disaster. Thousands of jobs up and down the country depend on the government revisiting the Thameslink contract.

"We want to make it absolutely clear to the government that Unite is not going away. Our union will keep backing Bombardier's workforce. A great injustice has been done to the people of Derby. Men and women who have worked at Bombardier for years now face an uncertain future.

"In Derby constituencies more than 4 in 5 of voters believe a review is possible and they're not buying the government's line that it is powerless. There is a huge belief that the government must act. If the Conservatives don't change they are likely to pay a high electoral price at the next election."
