UNDERSTANDING WEEE BY THE BRC

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is holding a conference entitled ‘Understanding your WEEE obligations’ to outline retailers’ WEEE obligations and to introduce Valpak who will run the Retail Compliance Scheme (RCS) over the next three years.

With EU legislation only nine months away, retailers need to be making provisions for either joining a RCS or running their own in-store take back.

BRC, Director of CSR, Nigel Smith, says: “The WEEE regulations are extremely complex and we want to ensure that retailers understand the intricacies of this new legislation.

“The conference will give practical guidance on how to prepare for the legislation, outline the latest developments and provide an opportunity to answer the many questions retailers may have.”

Speakers at the conference will include Daniel Kapadia, Policy Advisor Producer Responsibility Unit, Defra; Vivien Williams, Environmental Manager, Dixons; Dr Kirstie McIntyre, WEEE Programme Manager, Hewlett Packard; Adrian Dickinson. Project Director WEEE and Reverse Logistics, Excel and Nigel Smith, Director of CSR, BRC.

This is the second half-day seminar the BRC is running this year to ensure all involved in either the sale or production of EEE are prepared for next year’s imminent legislation.

Held on 4 October at One Great George Street, the seminar will be of relevance to retail environmental professionals and operations personnel; including those with day-to-day responsibility for environmental strategy, risk, regulatory affairs, corporate affairs and communications.
