Two steps on the path to achieving CPRE's vision for the countryside

CPRE today warmly welcomed the announcement by Hilary Benn of a new 'landscape scale' approach to countryside conservation. This is expected to entail managing larger areas of landscape, and establishing corridors between wildlife sites to ensure that wildlife has a better chance of survival.

'Taking a joined up approach to managing our countryside should both help our wildlife and improve the character of our landscapes' said Ian Woodhurst, CPRE's senior farming campaigner.

Last week the government also launched its new soil strategy which aims to provide better protection for our valuable soil resource.

Both these announcements will help to achieve CPRE's Vision for the Countryside 2026 which called for a national soil strategy and recognised that some landscape areas would need to be left to nature to become wilder in character to improve wildlife habitats.
