Turkey stuffs the Christmas competition

British people love a traditional Christmas dinner with a home cooked turkey despite the many other available options, according to research carried out by The Which? Good Food Guide.

Of those celebrating Christmas1, 92 per cent will be tucking into their festive dinner at home, or someone else’s home. Only four per cent plan to eat out in a restaurant, hotel or pub.

Almost two thirds (63 per cent) will be having turkey for Christmas dinner. Ten per cent plump for other poultry such as chicken or goose, nine per cent for other roast meat such as pork or ham. Four per cent will be eating a vegetarian dish.

The Which? Good Food Guide has chosen ten great places around the country that are open for Christmas dinner:

  • Mustard and Punch, Huddersfield

Elizabeth Carter, Consultant Editor, The Which? Good Food Guide, says:

“There are some great restaurants out there open on Christmas Day and serving all sorts of imaginative alternative dishes. The Mustard and Punch in Huddersfield, for example, has roast sea bream, rabbit loin and an artichoke risotto alongside the usual roast turkey.

“But as so many people think Christmas isn’t Christmas without a turkey, most restaurants will be offering roast turkey too.”
