Transforming learning – Improving the education experience

Voice: the union for education professionals will kick off its season of new-look conferences with 'Transforming Learning – Improving the Education Experience' on Saturday 24 April 2010 at Pride Park Stadium in Derby.

After surveying its members, the Derby-based union has moved from a traditional annual residential conference, based on debates and speeches, to a programme of thought-provoking one-day learning conferences.

The Derby event is aimed at heads, teachers, early years practitioners and support staff across all sectors of education and childcare – from nursery to tertiary. It will focus on the learning experience, from the design of the building to the way teaching and learning take place, examining the challenges facing education and childcare today and looking at the skills that are required to meet those challenges.

Sector-specific workshops will explore the impact the changes will make on the workforce, community, pupils and extended services.

The day will be led by Marcus Orlovsky of Bryanston Square Consulting, who has a reputation as an enthusiastic and innovative thinker and has helped to train 20,000 current and future practitioners.

Voice general secretary Philip Parkin said: "This is an exciting new type of event for Voice. It will be about broadening horizons, challenging assumptions about current working practices, and helping children and young people achieve their goals."

The event is free to all members of Voice and includes lunch and refreshments. Non-members can also attend for a small fee of £25. If non-members wish to join Voice on the day, their first year's annual subscription will be reduced by £25. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. A number of places are reserved for students.
