TITMUSS CLAWING AT MCLOUGHLIN'S HEELS IN CELEBRITY SHOPPER VOTING

11 August 2005

As week two draws to a close for the public voting of the British Retail Consortium's (BRC) Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award, Abi Titmuss is closing in on the leaders Colleen McLoughlin and Sienna Miller.

Last week Titmuss was in fifth place with only 8% of the votes; however, this week her fans have been busy voting boosting her to second place with 17% of the votes.

'Queen of Chav' Colleen McLoughlin has since stolen the crown (with votes of 20%) from 'Queen of Boho' Sienna Miller, who has now slipped into third place with 15% of the votes.

BRC Director General, Kevin Hawkins, says: "Abi's fans have certainly been busy voting this week. The star of TV show 'Celebrity Love Island' has become a very well known celebrity face - famous for her love of skimpy outfits and her sexy image.

"This is certainly not going to be the one-sided race we expected at the end of the first week of voting. The lead places have changed significantly and we could see more surprises next week - it's all down to the public!"

Members of the public have from 1 - 31 August to vote for their celebrity shopper via the website: http://www.brc.org.uk/celebrityshopper

The celebrities on this year's short list are:

  1. Abi Titmuss
  2. Bono
  3. Colleen McLoughlin
  4. David Beckham
  5. Jamie Oliver
  6. Ruby Wax
  7. Sharon Osborne
  8. Sienna Miller
  9. Trinny & Susannah (2004 winners)
  10. Victoria Beckham

The winner will be announced at the BRC's glamorous Retail Annual Dinner on 21 September, in front of 1,300 guests including Government ministers, MPs and the country's top retailers.
