Press Release

There is a serious worry that premature action by the government will tip the economy back into recession

24 May 2010

Tens of thousands of people in both the public and private sectors face losing their jobs

Paul Kenny, GMB general secretary reacted to today's announcement by George Osborne of his plans for an immediate £6.25 billion cut in public spending saying. "This announcement today is merely the curtain raiser to what will be a deep and potentially very damaging set of cuts. The recovery that is underway in the economy is very fragile and there is a serious worry that premature action by the government will tip the economy back into recession.

Tens of thousands of people in both the public and private sectors face losing their jobs. This is what GMB warned about before the election."
