TAKEAWAY COUNCIL MEETINGS NOW AVAILABLE

07/09/07

RESIDENTS on the move can still get a byte of Camden Council meetings following the launch of a ‘takeaway’ service.

From this month, the Council will be offering a podcast service for residents who are unable to attend meetings in person.

The new service, being piloted for three months, aims to make council business even more accessible for residents.

If successful the free service could become a permanent feature provided by the Council.

Currently a number of public meetings are broadcast over the internet as webcasts. This means residents and anyone else interested in council meetings can watch them from the comfort of their own home, office, library or any computer with an internet connection.

Video Podcasts, or Vodcasts, however make it even easier for people to find out all the latest committee meeting news. All someone has to do is subscribe to the service via http://www.camden.ukcouncil.net/site/ and their iPod or MP3 player will be automatically updated with the latest meeting feeds via, for example, iTunes.

This means whether you’re walking down the street or travelling on the bus or train, residents who are not able to attend meetings in person can still be present in mind and soul by simply turning on their iPod or MP3 player.

Cllr Keith Moffitt, Leader of Camden Council, said:

"Whether you're in Hampstead travelling on the bus or lying on a sun lounger in Spain you can now watch Council meetings despite not being in the council chamber. Camden's always looking for new and innovative ways to involve our residents and we hope this will appeal to busy people on the move but who still want to be apart of local democracy."
