Statutory regulation of herbalists vital for public protection

26 February 2010

BANT strongly supports the statutory regulation of herbalists as the only credible means of assuring the public about the status and competence of practitioners using herbal remedies. While BANT is the professional body for nutritional therapists, there is an overlap in the competences for herbal medicine and nutritional therapy. Catherine Honeywell, BANT chair, said "We have a large number of members who we expect to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council if the government introduces statutory regulation for herbalists. We are committed to upholding standards and a high level of public protection."
