Statement on Apprenticeship and college budgets

Commenting on reports that apprenticeship and college budgets face public spending cuts, as the government publishes its skills strategy, Philip Parkin, general secretary of Voice: the union for education professionals, said: "It is essential that the government gives high priority to investing in our young people and adult learners and their education and skills, especially in these difficult economic times.

"Young people are the future of this country and they should not become the victims of a recession that is not of their making.

"It would be morally wrong to make cuts in education and training while pouring even more public money into banks that contributed to the current economic crisis and yet continue to pay bonuses to already highly-paid staff."
