SHOP PRICES LOWER THAN A YEAR AGO

The BRC Shop Price Index (SPI) inflation rate for October showed that prices are 0.04% lower than at this time last year. The overall index stands at 100.69, compared to 100.73 in October 2004.

The price of non-food items showed a year-on-year decline for the fifth consecutive month. Non-food prices are now 1.07% lower than last year. Food prices are up 1.63% against October 2004 but 0.69% lower than September.

Overall, shop prices in October fell 0.96% from September; with a fall in both food and non-food items driving down prices.
