ScottishPower latest to join price hike

1st February 2008

In response to ScottishPower’s price rise announced today, averaging 15% for gas and 14% for electricity, Mike Stevenson, Switch with Which? says that this latest increase is yet more incentive for consumers to vote with their feet and switch to a better deal. He says:

“This most recent increase will add nearly £140 a year to the bill of a ScottishPower customer* and follows the massive rises announced recently by npower, EDF and British Gas. This means that the majority of UK households will now be feeling the impact of this years’ price hikes. Those hardest hit will be customers who have never switched before, who are most likely to be on a standard tariff and paying by cash or cheque every quarter when their bill arrives.

“With energy suppliers offering impressive discounts to customers who opt for paperless billing and pay by monthly Direct Debit, there are definitely still ways to minimise the impact on your pocket.”

With customers paying more for gas and more for electricity following this price rise, switching to an online managed (paperless) bill, paying my monthly Direct Debit and securing a dual fuel tariff could greatly reduce your annual energy bill. Which? runs its own energy price comparison website, www.switchwithwhich.co.uk, that helps consumers choose the best energy provider.
