Scotland hosts international green power experts

Edinburgh will play host to hundreds of renewable power experts at the first annual Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG 2011) from 6th – 8th September.

The conference will focus on the latest developments in renewable power generation, addressing issues such as the development and deployment of onshore and offshore wind and other renewable energy sources including photovoltaics and bio-energy. Delegates will also be looking at the integration of these sources into domestic and national power systems.

The Conference will be chaired by Professor David Infield from the Institute of Energy and Environment, University of Strathclyde.

Professor David Infield said: “It is great that we are hosting a renewable power generation conference of international importance in Scotland where so much technology development is now going on. I am looking forward to meeting the many researchers and experts from around the world who will be attending and hearing of the latest developments in this fast moving and critical area of technology.”

The event, which will be held at the city's Radisson Blu, is organised by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Europe's largest professional body of engineers and technicians.

The IET's Director of Knowledge, Tim Hamer, said: “Renewable power generation is an increasingly urgent issue that is gaining momentum as the international community seek sustainable solutions to the world's energy needs. The IET and many others are proud to demonstrate their strong commitment to the cause, exemplified by the fact that we have drawn a raft of innovative academics and business leaders of international standing.”

Keynote addresses will be delivered by a selection of world renowned academics and business leaders in the field of renewable energy, including Dr. Markus Meueller of The University of Edinburgh, who will speak on new electrical machines for renewable energy generation.

The Conference will provide attendees the opportunity to share practical knowledge from the field of renewable power generation, as well as meet leading academics and those at the pinnacle of business and industry.
