SCHOOL GOVERNORS TO CHALLENGE JIM KNIGHT ON EDUCATION POLICY

25 January 2007

Jim Knight, the Minister for Schools, will address school governors in Birmingham on 27 January at the Conference of the National Governors’ Association. The Minister’s speech will focus on personalised learning, but governors will also be asking questions on other hot education topics such as Trust schools and the Independent Report into School Leadership.

The conference will also be addressed by Geoff Southworth (Deputy CEO of the NCSL) on the need to plan for the radical fall in numbers applying for headships and the potential crisis at the end of the decade. Jamie Blackshaw of the Food Standards Agency will update governors on Food Policy in Schools.

Delegates will also explore such developments as Building Schools for the Future, sustainable schools and the future of governance, all essential in supporting the progress of schools.
