Roads Service Must Ensure Business Community Is Informed About M1/Westlink Upgrade-FSB

18.01.06

Commenting on the proposals to upgrade the M1/Westlink, the Federation of Small Businesses has urged the Roads Service to ensure that all affected businesses are kept informed of disruptions and progress of the development.

Harry McGimpsey, FSB Branch Chairman in North & West Belfast said:

“The FSB accept that this is a significant investment by the DRD and that this upgrade when completed on this key strategic route could be of considerable benefit to the Northern Ireland economy”

“However many small business owners in Belfast will be concerned of the disruption to their business and of course that their employees may also face considerably more delays in travelling to work”

“The Roads Service must ensure that they are proactive in ensuring that all businesses that are affected by this development receive regular communication on the extent of disruption”

“I will be seeking a meeting with Road Service to request a full briefing on the scheme and how they are communicating to the local business community”

“In the meantime the FSB would encourage all businesses owners affected to log on for the email notification service at www.roadsni.gov.uk/westlinktrafficalert which updates them on traffic problems”
