Response to the government announcement of troubled families team

15 December 2011

Home-Start UK chief executive Kay Bews said:

"Home-Start welcomes this initiative to support families who are struggling with a combination of needs. Part of building strong communities is enabling local parents to volunteer to support other local families. One strengthens the other. Funding from across government departments recognises this community approach and the complexity of issues many families face including poverty, mental health problems and social isolation.

"However this initiative does not appear to have any new money associated with it and local councils will have to match fund the re-channeled government funds. Local voluntary organisations already working with families as a single point of contact in families' homes are already facing funding cuts. Local Home-Starts will look forward to working with the newly appointed troubleshooters to continue to support families."
