Response to Nick Clegg's launch of a £1 billion youth unemployment scheme

25 November 2011

In response to Nick Clegg's launch of a £1billion youth unemployment scheme, Matthew Downie, Head of Parliamentary and Public Affairs at Action for Children says:

"The £1billion fund to get young people into employment and training is very welcome at a time when over 1 million young people are out of work, but we must ensure that any scheme like this empowers and supports young people every step of the way.

"So many of these young people have severely complex needs and they need much more than just a chance to get their foot in the door. For those battling against the odds, they need emotional support and stability on an ongoing basis, to truly succeed. We know what works, and with the proper support and empowerment we can help young people to realise their full potential."
