RCVS and RCVS Trust at BSAVA

      29 March 2010

Both the RCVS and the RCVS Trust are to attend the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress (8-11 April).

On Saturday 10 April, the RCVS will hold a session covering changes that it has made in response to feedback from the profession in recent consultations and also make available the first results from the surveys of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses.

Two further sessions will be held on the Saturday. These will launch the updated standards for the Practice Standards Scheme, and answer questions on the new veterinary nursing qualification the RCVS will introduce to replace the national vocational qualifications the government is phasing out.

Visitors to the RCVS stand will be able to take part in an animal calls quiz and, if they correctly identify the three animals, stand a chance of winning an iPod nano.

Further prizes – and jam tarts – are on offer from the RCVS Trust's stand, which is bringing an Alice in Wonderland theme to its presence. Cherry Bushell, director, explains: "Alice in Wonderland embodies curiosity and a sense of wonder, as does research and education and the RCVS Trust supports veterinary education and research, so ‘Alice' seems an appropriately topical theme.

"The Queen of Hearts will tour the BSAVA Congress twice a day. Find her – and she will give you a free ticket to enter our daily prize draw," says Cherry. The prize is a £25 John Lewis voucher, and the ticket will also entitle the holder to sign up on the RCVS Trust website (www.rcvstrust.org.uk) and enter a grand prize draw to win a Sony e-reader.

The RCVS will be at stand 911. It will hold the following sessions in Hall 6 on Saturday 10 April:

      • Falling on deaf ears: 2pm

      • Launch of the new Practice Standards: 3.30pm

      • Q&A on the new VN qualifications: 4.30pm

The RCVS Trust will be at stand 915.
