RACE ON FOR FINAL WEEK OF CELEBRITY SHOPPER VOTING

24 August 2005

Members of the public have one week left to vote for who they believe should take the title of Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award for 2005.

So far voting for first place has been hotly contested between Colleen McLoughlin, Abi Titmuss and Sienna Miller - all taking their turn in the lead role.

However, voting further down the list has also been neck-in-neck with Jamie Oliver and Bono fighting out fourth and fifth place.

BRC Director General, Kevin Hawkins, says: "This certainly has been an interesting competition to watch. The lead has changed place three times over the past three weeks, and it may well do so again - 'it's not over till the fat lady sings'."

"When the celebrities have had a moment in the limelight the public voting has reflected this. So with the start of 'The X-Factor ' last weekend, Sharon Osborne's involvement may well mean she rockets towards the lead in a last minute dash."

Members of the public have from 1 - 31 August to vote for their celebrity shopper via the website: http://www.brc.org.uk/celebrityshopper

The celebrities on this year's short list are:

  1. Abi Titmuss
  2. Bono
  3. Colleen McLoughlin
  4. David Beckham
  5. Jamie Oliver
  6. Ruby Wax
  7. Sharon Osborne
  8. Sienna Miller
  9. Trinny & Susannah (2004 winners)
  10. Victoria Beckham

The winner will be announced at the BRC's glamorous Retail Annual Dinner on 21 September, in front of 1,300 guests including Government ministers, MPs and the country's top retailers.
