'QUEEN OF BOHO CHIC' EARLY LEADER IN CELEBRITY SHOPPER OF THE YEAR AWARD

2 August 2005

Voting for the British Retail Consortium's (BRC) Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award took off with a bang yesterday with the announcement of the top ten celebrities up for the prestigious award.

Early favourite with the voters is the original 'Queen of boho chic' Sienna Miller, who earned her crown from photographs taken at Glastonbury.

Miller is also well known for her love of the latest fashion trends including her ability to carry off more affordable copies of designer labels.

Following close on Miller's well-trussed heels include the 'Queen of Chav' Colleen McLoughlin and 'school dinner hero' Jamie Oliver.

The celebrities on the short list are:

  1. Abi Titmuss
  2. Bono
  3. Colleen McLoughlin
  4. David Beckham
  5. Jamie Oliver
  6. Ruby Wax
  7. Sharon Osborne
  8. Sienna Miller
  9. Trinny & Susannah (2004 winners)
  10. Victoria Beckham

BRC Director General, Kevin Hawkins, says: "It is not surprising Sienna Miller is currently leading on Celebrity Shopper votes - she has become quite a style icon.

"Considering she kick started her career with raunchy photo's wearing very little, now days she's better known for the clothes she does wear and was recently crowned as the original 'Queen of boho chic'. She is also a fan of cheap imitations of designer labels, as well as the likes of Kate Moss, which makes her style attractive and achievable to high street shoppers and young people alike."

Members of the public have from 1 - 31 August to register their votes via the website: http://www.brc.org.uk/celebrityshopper

The winner will be announced at the BRC's glamorous Retail Annual Dinner on 21 September, in front of 1,300 guests including Government ministers, MPs and the country's top retailers.
