Press Release
Professor Ann Hodgson, IfL patron, appointed as assistant director at the Institute of Education
30 September 2011
Professor Ann Hodgson, who is a patron of the Institute for Learning (IfL), has been appointed assistant director at the University of London's Institute of Education (IoE).
Before entering higher education in 1993, Professor Hodgson worked as a teacher, lecturer, local education authority adviser, editor and civil servant. She is professor of education at the IoE's department of lifelong and comparative education, and researches and publishes in the areas of education policy; 14-19 education and training; lifelong learning; curriculum and qualifications reform; and institutional organisation and governance. She also teaches postgraduate programmes for teaching in the post-compulsory sector.
Professor Hodgson's commitment to evidence-based practice and thoughts on teaching are featured in the next issue of IfL's journal for professional teachers and trainers, Intuition.
In November 2011, Professor Hodgson will chair the IoE's conference, Young People and Opportunity: a Vision for London, which will focus on young people in London and the challenging environment in which they find themselves. The conference will provide a platform for a dialogue, focusing on what can be done and what is being done to rescue young people from the crisis that many of them now face; examining the threats and opportunities to London as a global city; and discussing how changes to higher education are causing the city-wide rethink on progression and pathways to employment.
Sue Crowley, IfL's elected chair, said, “For years, Ann has worked tirelessly to help develop a better environment for further education and lifelong learning, and we are very pleased to hear of her new appointment. Ann's expertise in teaching and learning is widely recognised, and a significant proportion of her academic journals focus on 14-19 and post-compulsory education. We wish her every success in her new role.”
