Prevention best for pest control

3 May 2007

The cost of dealing with pest infestations varies considerably across the UK, says Which? - but taking preventive steps is cheap, easy and better for people’s homes and health.

The consumer champion carried out a snapshot comparison of 20 local authorities’ pest control services. While some councils offer free pest control services, others charge homeowners or offer no services at all, so residents are forced to call in private pest controllers which can be costly.

Pest infestation can cause significant damage to property and to health, so people should take basic preventive measures such as ensuring that rubbish is disposed of properly and not leaving food lying around.

Neil Fowler, Editor, Which?, says:

“Pest control can be costly, so think about taking a few simple measures to prevent infestations in the first place, especially if your rubbish collection is infrequent. It’ll save you money and prevent damage to your property and your health.”
