£4.9m boost for justice and safer communities in the UK

24 November 2011

Skills for Justice is set to realise its vision for the future after successfully securing an investment of almost £5 million to develop the skills of employers in justice, community safety and legal services across the UK.

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills today announced that the sector skills council has been awarded £4.9 million over the next two years to co-invest with employers in a programme of work to address current and future skills needs.

Sir Duncan Nichol CBE, Chair of Skills for Justice, said: “We are delighted with this announcement.

“This will enable us to help employers to create a world class workforce and rise to any challenges that may lie ahead.”

Alan Woods OBE, Chief Executive of Skills for Justice, said: “The Commission's announcement is excellent news for Skills for Justice and for our sectors.

“Our vision for the future is one where the sector has been transformed thanks to the investment of employers in skills. A future where people feel safer, communities feel safer, business is flourishing and unemployment is low.

“The co-investment made by Skills for Justice and our employers will allow us to work in partnership to make sure the organisations we work with are the best they can be and have the skills needed to create safer communities across the UK.”

The funding, which will come from both employers and the UK Commission, will pay for the delivery of nine large scale projects jointly developed by employers and Skills for Justice. These activities include supporting employers to increase Apprenticeships, developing resources to reduce business crime, enabling workplaces to develop and thrive, and helping organisations to work better together.
