“Postponement of Water Charges is Not Good Enough” - FSB

6th September 2005

Reacting to the announcement of Minister Shaun Woodward that the introduction of Water Charges is to be postponed by a year, the Federation of Small Businesses has urged the NIO to scrap, not postpone Water Charges.

FSB Regional Chairman, John Friel said:

“While this delay gives us some stay of execution, the fact remains that the Government are still set to introduce these charges on already over taxed and over burdened small business community in Northern Ireland”

“Business owners will have to pay twice with these proposed water charges, at home and at their place of work and still have to suffer with some of the highest Insurance, Electricity, Banking and Crime rates in the whole of the UK”

“The arrogance of the NIO on Water Charging is simply staggering. All of the main political parties, trade unions, voluntary sector groups and the business organisations are totally opposed to the introduction of this tap tax”

“A one year delay is not good enough - these Water Charges should be scrapped”
