PANN WELCOMES CHILDREN'S WORKFORCE ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Professional Association of Nursery Nurses (PANN) has welcomed the Government's response today (13 February 2006) to the Children's Workforce Strategy Consultation and its announcement on the Transformation Fund.

PANN Senior Professional Officer Tricia Pritchard said: "We welcome the Government's responses today, and look forward to studying the further details as they emerge.

"We are are particularly pleased that the Government seems to have recognised the importance of training and qualifications for the whole sector and not just graduates.

"There is a need to break down barriers and perceived rivalry between disciplines and different career levels.

"If the Government can deliver on it promises, we hope that these announcements will lead to a better trained, qualified and paid workforce of childcare professionals."
