PANN STATEMENT ON CHILDCARE COSTS SURVEY

8 February 2006

The Professional Association of Nursery Nurses (PANN) – a section of PAT – has commented on the Daycare Trust’s 2006 Childcare Costs Survey.

PANN Senior Professional Officer Tricia Pritchard said: “The survey endorses our view that there should be larger subsidies for childcare to ease the burden on parents.

“Increasing costs will push childcare out the financial reach of many parents, turning them to lower quality informal care arrangements.”

PANN Section Committee Chairman Deborah Lawson said: “The tax credit system in this country leaves much to be desired. As it is for working parents, it doesn't help parents trying to move from study or welfare into work.”
